Academic Mentor

Academic Mentors consist of graduate students who help either individual or a small group of student-athletes learn how to plan for college. Almost every incoming freshman student-athlete is assigned a mentor who will work with the student to setup academic plans.

Responsibilities of Academic Mentors

Academic Mentors are usually assigned to incoming freshman student-athletes. Since the student-athletes are unfamiliar with the college environment and how to properly prepare for class and tests, it is the Mentor's responsibility to be sure the student-athlete grasps what it takes to succeed in college and become independent from the services of a Mentor. Mentors should try to plan an academic schedule with the student-athletes that suggests how the student should spend their time outside of class preparing for the class. Mentors are expected to act in a professional manner while complying with NCAA regulations.
