Freshman Year

The success of a first year for any college student is crucial to the success of their college career. Though for a student-athlete, there is little time to get acclimated due to classes, work-outs, practice schedules and competition. To help make the transition a little easier and more productive, the CCACSA concentrates a great deal of time on each new student experience.

Incoming Freshman

Each student-athlete is advised based on their academic profile that has been compiled by the CCACSA based on high school and standardized test performance. Their advisor works with them to select and schedule classes. All freshmen are required to attend study hall for hours each week regardless of GPA. Each student is a assigned a mentor to assist with a smooth transition by helping with study skills, goal setting and time management. At the start of each semester, the mentors will collect syllabi for each class and compile a calendar with due dates and scheduled tests for each student. There is tutor support available for each student in every class subject taken.

Monitoring Progress

Advisors meet with coaches on a regular basis to discuss the academic successes and needs of their athletes. Grade reports are sent four times a semester to professors to make sure each student remains on top of his/her coursework. Each student receives customized academic support based on his/her individual needs. Students are still monitored after their freshmen year, but they take on more responsibilities for themselves in order to prepare them for life after college.
