Academic Center Computer Features
The computers in the Academic Center have a security measure in place to ensure that only student-athletes and Academic Center staff are able to logon to the machines. Also, the computers allow students to easily plug in their jump drives by providing several USB ports at the front of each computer.
When students enter LSU, they have a PAWS account for e-mail, files, course information, etc. A feature of having a PAWS account is TigerBytes, which allows students to save their work in one central location, which means that if a student-athlete is traveling and has an Internet connection, they can easily pick up where they left off by using TigerBytes. The computers in the Academic Center provide a drive mapped directly to a student's TigerBytes when they logon to the system, again making it simple for the student.
Academic Center Computer Lab
Located in 203 Gym Armory, the Academic Center Computer Lab contains more than 70 IBM ThinkPad Pro computers for student-athletes. The Computer Lab is split into two: one side contains a public area for student-athletes to work and converse on projects that they might be working on in class while the other side provides individualized rooms where students may work in a more silent environment. The computer lab also has two computers when you first walk in that serve as e-mail stations, so student-athlete may quickly check their e-mail.
Tutorial Center Computers
The Tutorial Center allows tutoring sessions to utilize a computer, which has become a necessity in recent years. The Tutorial Center provides Dell computers purchased in the Summer of 2007 for all tutor and mentor sessions taking place in the cubicles in the Tutorial Center.
Directed Studies Computer Lab
Directed Studies provides 14 Dell computers for their students. Special learning software can be found on these computers, which can be used by students who have been diagnosed with certain learning disabilities. This provides a beneficial learning environment for those who require special learning skills in order to graduate from college.
Library Tech Room
For tutor or mentor sessions that may have several students meeting, each student requiring a computer, the Tech Room found in the Library of the Academic Center is medium-sized room that allows group sessions to be conducted. This room has proven to be essential to many group sessions conducted in the Academic Center.
Mezzanine Lab
In the third floor of the building in the Library room is a Mezzanine that allows individualized cubicles for students to study. This area has become great meeting place for freshman players to meet tutors and mentors and conduct sessions while using computers.
CHAMPS/Life Skills Lab
The CHAMPS/Life Skills area contains a room of six computers containing software that allows student-athletes to produce professional resumes as well as allowing student-athletes to gain career advise. The CHAMPS/Life Skills staff is available to help students who wish to pursue their life after college using their degree.
